ESPN’s Emmy Award-winning sportscaster Chris Berman ’77 is coming back-back-back-back to Brown University to speak with students, alumni, faculty and staff on Wednesday, April 18th, starting at 7:00 p.m. at MacMillan Hall, located at 167 Thayer Street in Providence.

Jack Hayes Named Athletic Director at Brown
Jack Hayes, currently director of athletics at Hofstra University, has been named director of athletics at Brown University. Hayes will begin his work at Brown July 1, 2012, at the start of the 2012-13 academic year, succeeding Michael Goldberger.

The Brown University Athletic Department will announce the hiring of its new Athletic Director today at 1 p.m. The new Athletic Director will be replacing Michael Goldberger, who is retiring at the end of the academic year.

Mike Goldberger To Retire As Brown's Director of Athletics
In a message to the Brown University community, Brown President Ruth J. Simmons announced that Executive Director of Athletics Michael Goldberger will retire at the end of the current academic year. Goldberger has served the University for 38 years, including 10 years as director of admission.

Roger Marandino, the head strength and conditioning coach at Brown since 1995, has stepped down to become the first assistant strength and conditioning coach with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Brown’s 22 NCAA APR Public Recognition Awards Are Second In The Nation
Brown University Athletics excelled once again in the NCAA Academic Progress report, with 22 Brown sports earning Public Recognition Awards, second best among all NCAA Division I schools. Ivy League institutions once again boasted the most teams honored among the 909 teams that earned 2010-11 NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) Public Recognition Awards, as announced by the NCAA.

Athletics Review Committee issues report for campus review
Brown University's Athletics Review Committee has recommended a package of steps including significant investment in athletic facilities, more competitive salaries for coaches and staff, the reduction of admission slots, and a better alignment of schedules to avoid conflicts between academic and athletic programs among student-athletes. The decision about the elimination of four sports was delayed until October 2011.

Brown University Chooses ACS Athletics
Brown University, the seventh oldest university in America, has selected ACS Athletics as its technology partner to more efficiently manage day-to-day operations within the athletics department. With ACS InControlTM software, Brown will manage the student-athlete life-cycle for more than 900 student-athletes participating in 37 sport programs on its Providence, Rhode Island campus.

Three Student-Athletes Named CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District
Three Brown student-athletes – all seniors - have been selected to the District I ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America At-Large teams. All three of Brown's nominated student-athletes were selected to the men’s team with fencer Adam Pantel (Mendham, NJ) and water polo standout Kent Holland (Orinda, CA) both earning First Team honors. Men’s ice hockey forward Aaron Volpatti (Revelstoke, BC) earned a spot on the Second Team. By virtue of their selection to the All-District First Team, Pantel and Holland will now advance to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America national ballot. For the At-Large process, schools may nominate up to three student-athletes for the men's team and three student-athletes for the women's team. All three of Brown’s honorees were also recognized as Academic All-Ivy selections this year during the competition season for their respective sport.

Brown Athletics Honors Athletes at Second Annual Senior Celebration and Awards Banquet
Providence, R.I. – On Wednesday evening, May 5, Brown Athletics celebrated the 2009-10 athletics season at the second annual Senior Celebration and Awards Banquet. Over 170 student-athletes representing Brown’s 37 intercollegiate varsity teams came together along with more than 150 coaches and distinguished guests to celebrate another exceptional year and honor some outstanding performances on and off the field.

From Playing Fields to Battlefields
At the Thayer Street entrance to Lincoln Field stands the majestic Soldiers Memorial Gate. Dedicated in 1921, it bears tribute to the 43 Brunonians who lost their lives in World War I. A more recent monument, created in memory of Brown's men and women who lost their lives in World War II, Korea and Vietnam is also located on Lincoln Field. In Wriston Quadrangle, Patriots Court honors Brown men who died in the service of their country since 1775.

B2 Networks and Brown Athletics Announce Fall Sports Broadcast Schedule
B2 Networks and Brown University Athletics have announced the Bears' fall sports broadcast schedule. The partnership begins this weekend with live video coverage of field hockey, women’s soccer and men’s soccer. The coverage will continue with live broadcasts of home games for Brown football, men's and women's soccer, field hockey and volleyball. Coverage expands to include men's and women's basketball, men's and women's ice hockey, gymnastics, wrestling, men's and women's lacrosse, baseball and softball and possibly more sports and events in the winter and spring.

Brown's fiscal year is just days away from ending on June 30, 2009, and it is critically important that we meet the Brown Sports Foundation's annual-use fundraising goal of $3.23 million. As of Friday, June 26th, they are $400,000 away from reaching goal. Every dollar helps and truly makes a difference. Without the support of alumni, parents and friends, our athletic programs would not be where they are today.
