GALES FERRY, Conn. – Brown University equestrian amassed 20 top-three performances with eight blue ribbons to finish in second place at the University of Rhode Island IHSA Show on Saturday at the Mystic Valley Hunt Club in its final regular season show of the spring.
The Bears concluded the regular season in second place in the 11-school IHSA Zone 1 Region 1 standings and qualified nine student-athletes for the Zone 1 Region 1 Regionals set for Mar. 18.
Brown's regional qualifiers include senior captain Kabisa Baughen (Sarasota, Fla.), senior Roshan Moazed (Brookline, Mass.), juniors Annaliese Fries (Kirkland, Wash.), Lily Hertling (Paris, France), Anna Seto (Barrington, R.I.), Elizabeth Rao (Andover, Mass.), and Genoveva Eguiguren (Quito, Ecuador), and sophomore Wallace Douglas (Ipswich, Mass.).
At Saturday's show, Baughen, Douglas, Eguiguren, senior Clara Mae Maynard (Chilmark, Mass.), juniors Madison Kuhn (Lancaster, Pa.) and Sara Sellers (Washington, D.C.), sophomore Annabel Lee Sessoms (Vero Beach, Fla.) and freshman Hannah Guevara (Pasadena, Calif.) all registered first-place finishes.
In open fences, junior captain Victoria Flagg (Great Falls, Va.) took second place while Baughen and senior Samantha Spear (Chester Springs, Pa.) claimed third and fourth-place finishes respectively. In intermediate fences, Seto came in fourth, and Guevara placed sixth.
Baughen paced Brown on open flat with a first-place showing with Spear coming in third. In intermediate flat, Maynard and Guevara each captured blue ribbons, and Flagg came in sixth.
In novice fences, Maynard and Kuhn each placed fourth while Herting and freshman Jordan Hanson (Berkeley, Calif.) both came in sixth.
Six Bears competed in novice flat with Kuhn pacing the cohort with a first-place finish. Hertling and junior Alejandra Zamora (New Canaan, Conn.) followed with a second-place finish apiece while Seto and Rao each logged a third-place showing. Hanson came in sixth.
In advanced walk-trot-canter, Douglas and Sellers both took home blue ribbons while Moazed recorded a second-place finish. Junior Rebecca Chernick (Weston, Mass.) and freshman Renee Seto (Barrington, R.I.) rounded out the group with both marking a fifth-place finish.
Eguiguren paced the Bears in walk-trot behind a blue ribbon finish. Junior Katrina Lee (Manila, Philippines) and freshman Dominique Carlo both came in second, freshman Sophie Starck (New York, N.Y.) placed third, and freshman Emma Ramsdell (Cambridge, Mass.) finished fourth.
Next, Brown will send its nine representatives to the Zone 1 Region 1 Regionals on Saturday, Mar. 18 at New Claddagh Farm in Tiverton, R.I.
