ASHAWAY, R.I. – Brown University equestrian won the Region 1 IHSA Show on Saturday at Hunter Ridge Farm in its last show of the regular season to claim the Region 1 regular season championship.
The Bears tallied 12 top-three finishes and three blue ribbons to capture their fifth team win of the season and second team win of the spring.
Brown's blue-ribbon performers included senior Anna Seto (Barrington, R.I.) with a first-place finish in intermediate flat, senior Madison Kuhn (Lancaster, Pa.) with a first-place showing in novice flat, and sophomore Renee Seto (Barrington, R.I.) with a first-place effort in novice flat, pointing out of the division.
In open fences, senior Sara Nordstrom (Medina, Wash.) and senior Victoria Flagg (Great Falls, Va.) placed second and fifth respectively while senior Caroline Marks (Seattle, Wash.) came in second in intermediate flat in her debut in the division. In open flat Nordstrom took second, Flagg finished third, and senior Annaliese Fries (Kirkland, Wash.) placed fourth.
Anna Seto led Brown in intermediate flat with her first-place performance while freshman Hannah Woolley (Medfield, Mass.) came in second, and senior Lily Hertling (Paris, France) placed fifth. In novice fences, Kuhn and Renee Seto each came in second, and Marks placed third.
In walk-trot-canter, junior Yinan Liu (Shanghai, China) and senior Sara Sellers (Washington, D.C.) both placed second. In walk-trot, sophomore Emma Ramsdell (Cambridge, Mass.), sophomore Sophie Starck (New York, N.Y.), and sophomore Leah Peipert (St. Louis, Mo.) posted fourth, fifth, and sixth-place showings apiece.
Next, Brown competes at Zone 1 Region 1 Regionals on Saturday, Mar. 24 at Old Claddagh Farm in Tiverton, R.I.
