DURHAM, N.H. – Senior Caroline Morant won a share of the vault title and posted the Bears' top score on three events as Brown University gymnastics tied for second place with a 193.175 at a tri-meet at the University of New Hampshire with Yale University on Sunday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium.
Morant (Chicago, Ill.) earned her fifth vault title of the season while posting an identical 9.800 on vault, bars, and floor for Brown's top score on all three events. She tied her season-high with a 39.075 in the all-around for third place.
Fellow senior Jorden Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind.) competed in the all-around for the first time this season and scored a 38.100 for fifth place.
In the team standings, the host Wildcats won the meet with a 196.025 while the Bears and Bulldogs each registered a 193.175 to tie for second.
As a team, Brown scored a 47.875 on vault, a 48.400 on bars, a 48.450 on beam, and a 48.450 floor.
On vault, Morant led the Bears with her 9.800 to tie for first with freshman Anne Christman (Amherst, N.H.) supporting her with a 9.575. Junior Anya Olson (Farmington Hills, Mich.), Mitchell, and sophomore Julia Green (Exton, Pa.) tallied a 9.550, 9.500, and 9.450 respectively.
Morant paced Brown on bars with a 9.800, junior Claire Ryan (Greenwood, Minn.) matched her personal best with a 9.750, and junior Maggie McAvoy (Charlotte, N.C.) posted a 9.650. Freshman Ally Rudd (Olympia, Wash.) set a career high with a 9.625, and Olson rounded out the scoring with a 9.575.
Junior Regan Butchness (Barrington, R.I.) and Mitchell each scored a 9.725 on beam to lead the Bears, marking a season high for Mitchell. Green and Morant followed with a 9.675 apiece, and Ryan logged a season-high 9.650.
On floor, Morant tied for third place with her 9.800 while Mitchell scored a 9.750 in her season debut on floor. Green logged a personal-best 9.675, Olson notched a 9.625, and Christman compiled a 9.600.
Next, Brown competes at Bridgeport with Rhode Island College and Southern Connecticut on Tuesday, Mar. 7 at 6:00 p.m.
