BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Seniors Caroline Morant and Jorden Mitchell each came in third in the all-around as Brown University gymnastics scored a season-high 193.425 in a quad meet at Bridgeport with Rhode Island College and Southern Connecticut on Tuesday night at the Wheeler Recreation Center.
Morant (Chicago, Ill.) posted the Bears' top score on three events – vault, beam, and floor – while she and Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind.) both scored a 38.625 to tie for third in the all-around.
In the team standings, the host Purple Knights won the meet with a 194.450 while Brown topped the SCSU Owls (190.350) and the RIC Anchorwomen (182.950).
As a team, the Bears tallied season highs on vault (48.475) and beam (48.400) in addition to a 48.475 on floor and 47.675 on bars.
On vault, Morant led the way with a 9.775 for second place while Mitchell followed her with a 9.725 for third place. Sophomore Julia Green (Exton, Pa.) notched a 9.675, and freshmen Ally Rudd (Olympia, Wash.) and Anne Christman (Amherst, N.H.) each registered a 9.650.
Junior Anya Olson (Farmington Hills, Mich.) paced Brown on bars with a 9.700 for third place. Junior Claire Ryan (Greenwood, Minn.), junior Maggie McAvoy (Charlotte, N.C.), and Mitchell scored a 9.650, 9.600, and 9.600 respectively.
Morant logged Brown's top score on beam with a 9.850 to finish in second place. Mitchell supported her with a 9.800 for fourth. Green tallied a personal-best 9.750, junior Regan Butchness (Barrington, Ill.) charted a 9.725, and sophomore Cassidy Jung (San Marino, Calif.) finished with a 9.675.
On floor, Morant came in third with a 9.875 while Olson recorded a 9.750. Green posted a career-high 9.700, sophomore Morgan Hagenbuch (Bellmore, N.Y.) compiled a 9.650, and Christman and Mitchell scored a 9.500 apiece.
Next, Brown competes at Springfield College with RIC and SUNY Cortland on Saturday, March 11 at 1:00 p.m.
