Gymnastics’ Morant Set for NCAA Regionals as All-Around Competitor

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University gymnastics senior Caroline Morant is set to compete at the 2017 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Regional Championships as an individual all-around performer at West Virginia University's WVU Coliseum on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.

THE REGIONAL
A native of Chicago, Ill., Morant will head to Morgantown, W.Va., to take part in the Morgantown Regional hosted by West Virginia University at the WVU Coliseum on April 1. She reached the regional as one of the top four all-around competitors in the region not on a qualifying team.

The Hinsdale Central High School product will rotate with No. 18 Southern Utah and begin on a bye before proceeding to floor on the second rotation. She will compete on vault on rotation three, on bars on rotation five, and on beam on rotation six. 

MORANT RETURNS TO NCAA STAGE
Morant will make her second appearance at the NCAA Regional Championships after qualifying for the University Park Regional in 2014. She ranks as the No. 9 individual all-around competitor in the North East with a 38.955 RQS. In 2014, Morant placed 10th in the all-around at the University Park Regional with a score of 38.975. 

ECAC GYMNAST OF THE YEAR
This season Morant won ECAC Co-Gymnast of the Year honors while winning the floor title at the ECAC Championship and collecting All-ECAC on vault, bars, and floor. At this year's Ivy Classic she captured the vault, bars, and floor titles while gaining First Team All-Ivy Classic in the all-around and on vault, bars, and floor.

Her season high scores on the year include a 39.075 in the all-around, a 9.825 on vault, a 9.850 on bars, a 9.875 on beam, and a 9.925 on floor, tying the program record. 

REGIONAL CONTEXT
Morant becomes the first Bear to compete at regionals since Jorden Mitchell '17 (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Diana Walters '16 qualified in 2015. In 2014, Brown sent three student-athletes to the regionals, qualifying multiple performers for the first time since 2003. 

LAST TIME OUT
Morant earned Co-ECAC Gymnast of the Year honors, six Bears totaled 11 All-ECAC honors, and Brown came in third place at the 2017 ECAC Division I Women's Gymnastics Championship on Mar. 18 at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Morant won the floor title and came in third on vault and bars, finishing in the top three in all events in which she competed. She gained First Team All-ECAC on all three events. Morant finished her career with 13 All-ECAC honors and three ECAC titles.

After the NCAA Regionals, Morant and the rest of the Bears will compete at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships at Seattle Pacific University from Apr. 7-9, beginning with Team Preliminary Session No. 2 on Friday, Apr. 7 at 10:00 p.m. ET.
