TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Senior Sam Grigo (Westbrook, Conn.) hit a pair of home runs to lead the Brown baseball team past Florida A&M, 5-2, in the team's season opener Friday afternoon at Moore-Kittles Field.
Brown opened the season and the four-game series at 1-0, while the Rattlers dropped to 5-7 overall.
Grigo went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs and sophomore Cameron Deere (Los Angeles, Calif.) also had two hits with a pair of walks. Kaycee Reese paced the Rattlers with three hits.
Reid Anderson (Aledo, Texas) went six strong innings on the mound, giving up two runs with six strikeouts to pick up the win. Grant Greeno (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) added two scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts in relief, before Bobby Leyman (North Hampton, N.H.) struck out the side in the ninth for the save. The trio combined for 11 strikeouts with no walks.
After four scoreless innings, Florida A&M struck first when Dallas Oliver hit an RBI single through the left side for the one-run lead.
Brown came right back in the top of the sixth, however, as Garett Delano (Callahan, Fla.) and Mark Sluys (Gig Harbor, Wash.) responded with back-to-back RBI singles. The lead did not last long as the Rattlers evened the score on an RBI single in the bottom half of the frame.
From there, Grigo hit a pair of solo shots in the seventh and ninth innings. Deere then drove in Willy Homza (Anchorage, Alaska) in the ninth for the three-run lead, before Leyman shut the door to seal the win.

Brown will continue its four-game series against the Rattlers with a doubleheader on Saturday. The first game will start at 1 PM.
