PROVIDENCE, R.I. – In the annual meeting between Brown men's crew and Northeastern, the Huskies edged the Bears in the varsity eight to take back the Dreissigacker Cup on Saturday on the Seekonk River.
In the final race of the day, the varsity eight, Northeastern and Brown battled a strong headwind that had built over the course of the morning. The two crews were even throughout the close race, but Northeastern earned a slim victory in a time of 6:12.55 by 0.01 seconds, before the Bears crossed at 6:12.56, which was finally confirmed after video review.
Northeastern picked up another narrow victory in the second varsity race, winning in a time of 6:22.8. Brown crossed the finish line in a time of 6:23.7.
The Huskies also edged out Brown in the third varsity at 6:35.3 to 6:35.7 to close out the series of tight races. Brown's fourth varsity boat finished in a time of 6:36.7 and the program's fifth varsity boat crossed at 6:59.7.
Brown will visit Dartmouth next weekend in the annual meeting for the Atalanta Cup.
