Brown Hosts Penn In Pivotal Ivy Lacrosse Match-Up

Providence, Rhode Island - Coach Lars Tiffany's Brown men's lacrosse team will match-up at home against #12 Penn in a pivotal Ivy league game at Stevenson Field on Saturday, April 9, starting at 1:00 p.m.  The Bears are seeking their first Ivy win of the season and are looking to get back in the contention for the Ivy league playoffs.

About the Bears (3-6, 0-2 Ivy):  Brown is coming off a tough 8-7 loss to Bryant on Tuesday… Senior goalie Matt Chriss, who made 20 saves, including four in overtime, against Princeton last week, ranks second in the nation with a save percentage of .634, while posting a 7.48 goals against average, 11th best in the nation…Senior David Hawley has scored 11 of his 15 goals in Brown's last four games, including a career high six goals against Vermont…Sophomore Roger Ferguson picked up a game high six ground balls against Princeton, and leads the Bears with 30 ground balls for the season…Senior All-American defenseman Peter Fallon is the leader of a Brown defense that has allowed just 7.92 goals per game, 14th best in the nation…Sophomore Sam Ford is second on the Brown team with 23 ground balls…Senior Jeff Foote earned a starting role on attack against Princeton.  He assisted on Brown's game-tying goal that sent the game into overtime…Junior Parker Brown, who scored two goals against Princeton, ranks second on the Brown team in scoring with 22 points (12 goals, 9 assists)…Senior Teddy Daiber netted two goals against Bryant… Senior attackman Andrew Feinberg ranks fifth nationally with 2.71 goals per game.  His 3.86 points per game (19 goals-8 assists) is eighth in the nation.

 

About the Quakers:  Penn has earned wins over Duke (7-3), Bucknell (8-6), Lafayette (7-6), Princeton (8-3) and Yale (10-9 3ot), with losses to #15 North Carolina (12-6), Villanova (9-8), and Cornell (10-9)…Senior attackman Corey Winkoff ranks fourth in the nation in assists with 2,0 per game.  He leads the Quakers in scoring with 21 points (5 goals, 16 assists)…Senior midfielder Al Kohart's 15 goals leads the Quakers…Freshman goalie Brian Feeney has posted a 7.42 goals against average for the Quakers, and has yet to leave the playing field…The Quakers have out-shot their opponents by a 256-216 margin…Freshman Danny Feeney, Brian's twin brother, leads the Quakers with 35 ground balls and has won 65 of 148 face-offs.

 

The Series Record:  Brown and Penn have met 48 times, dating back to 1927, with the Bears holding a 29-19 series advantage over the Quakers.  Last year, Brown came away with a 12-9 win over Penn at Franklin Field behind Andrew Feinberg's four goals. Penn's last win over the Bears came in 2009 when the Quakers topped the Bears, 7-6, at Stevenson Field. 

 

This Date (April 9) In Brown Lacrosse History:  Head coach Peter Lasagna's Brown lacrosse team earned a 7-6 victory over Princeton at Stevenson Field.  The Bears went on to win the Ivy League Championship with a perfect 6-0 league record, and make their first ever appearance in the NCAA Final Four, finishing with a 13-5 record.
