VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Brown men's tennis team defeated VCU, 4-1, on Saturday. The Bears opened the match by winning the doubles point and then went on to clinch three singles matches for the victory.
After falling in the first doubles match, senior Lucas Da Silveira (Incline Village, Nev.) and sophomore Charles Tan (Austin, Texas) won second doubles, 6-3, and junior Jack Haworth (Corby, England) and freshman Jacob Walker (Bethesda, Md.) won the point with a 7-5 showing in the third spot.
VCU picked up a win in first singles and Brown responded with three straight wins to take the match. Junior Aaron Sandberg (Hudson, Ohio) posted a 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-1 win in second singles and Haworth won in third singles, 6-4, 6-2. Da Silveira record the last victory in fourth singles, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.
The Bears will remain in Virginia and take on No. 36 Old Dominion on Sunday (March 19) in a 9:00 a.m. match.
