Men’s Tennis Edged by No. 28 Harvard, 4-3

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's tennis team was edged by No. 28 Harvard, 4-3, in their first Ivy League match of the season on Friday at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

After the Crimson won the doubles point with 6-3 victories in both first and third, the Bears made it interesting in singles, quickly tying the match when junior Charles Tan (Austin, Texas) recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win in the fourth spot.

Harvard gained a 2-1 advantage in first singles, fighting off a second set comeback from senior Jack Haworth (Corby, England), 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. Senior Peter Tarwid (Lake Forest, Ill.) next tied the contest for the second time by taking his third singles match 6-4, 7-6 (3). Sophomore Jacob Walker (Bethesda, Md.) put forth a solid effort in second singles but fell 6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-2 as Harvard claimed another lead (3-2). The Crimson put the match away with a win in fifth singles while senior Aaron Sandberg (Hudson, Ohio) closed out the day with a 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (5) showing in sixth singles.

The Bears next travel to Hanover, N.H. to compete against No. 33 Dartmouth on Sunday, April 8 in a 1:00 p.m. match on the Ivy League Network.
