PROVIDENCE, R.I. – No. 11 Brown University women's crew swept the NCAA races – the first varsity eight, second varsity eight, and A varsity four – from No. 6 Yale University in its only home race of the year on Tuesday morning on the Seekonk River.
In the final race before the Ivy League Championship for both programs, the Bears reclaimed the Nat & Anne Case Cup, taking the cup for the fourth time in the last five seasons. Yale gained victories in the B varsity four and third varsity eight to close the day.
The race marked the final home competition for the Bears' Class of 2018 – Tara Bozzini (Lafayette, Calif.), Regina Brown (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Zoe Canaras (Milton, Ga.), Geena Fram (Lawrenceville, N.J.), Camille Kisseberth (Tiburon, Calif.), Cicely Madden (Weston, Mass.), Bonnie Marcus (New York, N.Y.), and Jennifer Mundelius (Danville, Calif.).
Opening the day with the first varsity eight, Brown finished in a time of 5:59.10, eclipsing Yale (6:01.00) by 1.9 seconds. The Bears improved to 22-9 all-time in the first varsity eight dual series with the Bulldogs.
Brown followed that race with a 6:05.30 to 6:06.70 victory over Yale in the second varsity eight, winning the race by a 1.4-second margin. The Bears' second varsity eight finished the regular season 4-0 in Ivy competition.
Wrapping up the NCAA events, Brown clocked in with a time of 6:36.20, edging Yale (6:38.20) by 2.0 seconds. The Bears' A varsity four concluded the regular season with a 4-0 mark in Ivy races.
In the B varsity four, Brown fell to Yale by a 5.5-second difference – 6:49.10 to 6:54.60. The Bears' C varsity four also took part in the race, finishing third in a time of 7:07.80.
Closing the day with the third varsity eight, the Bears dropped a 6:29.50 to 6:33.60 decision to the Bulldogs, falling by a 4.1-second margin.
Next, Brown will compete at the Ivy League Championship on Sunday, May 13 at Cooper River Park in Pennsauken, N.J., with morning heats beginning at 8 a.m.
