Women’s Lacrosse Resumes Ivy League Play On Saturday Against Yale

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team will welcome Yale for an Ivy League match-up at Stevenson-Pincince on Saturday, March 18 for a 4:00 p.m. contest.

The Bears cruised past Iona with a 16-5 victory at Mazzella Field on Saturday. Iona had no answer for Brown's offense as the Bears jumped out to a 6-1 lead midway through the first and easily held an advantage through the remainder of the contest. Seven Bears recorded multiple points in the game, with senior Kerianne Hunt (2G, 1A), junior Emma Dahle (2G, 1A), sophomore Carolyn Paletta (3G) and junior Hannah Langmuir (1G, 2A) all posting three points.

The Bulldogs took last year's match-up, 6-5, at Reese Stadium. Yale jumped out to a 5-1 lead at the half and Brown responded in the second half outscoring the Bulldogs, 4-1. Lauren Toy '16 led Brown in scoring with three goals.   

Yale enters Saturday with a 4-3 overall record and 0-1 mark in conference play. The Bulldogs most recently defeated Niagara, 13-4, on Monday, March 13 after dropping two straight, including an Ivy League game at Harvard, a narrow 14-13 loss. Hope Hanley leads Yale in points with 38, on 17 goals and a team-high 21 assists. Tess McEvoy carries the squad's goal lead with 24, and also has eight assists to rank second on the team with 32 points. Sydney Marks has started five games in net and has recorded a 9.29 goals-against average and a .438 save percentage for a 4-2 record. Allie Carrigan has started two games and posted a 11.14 GAA and a .400 save percentage for a 0-1 record. Yale ranks first in the conference in points per game (22.80) and are second in both goals per game (15.80) and assists per game (7.00).

The Bears offense is powered by sophomore Hafsa Moinuddin, who has 17 points on 14 goals and three assists. Sophomore Carolyn Paletta is second on the team in scoring with 13 goals and one assist for 14 points. Junior Emma Dahle (4G, 5A) and sophomore Zoe Verni (8G, 1A) are tied for third in scoring. Junior Marissa Hudgins is Brown's ground ball leader with 17 on the year, which ranks fifth in the conference (2.83 per game). Junior Mikaela Karlsson has started all six games in net and carries a 6.97 goals-against average (second in Ivies) and a .594 save percentage (first in Ivies). Offensively, Brown is outscoring its opponents 68-41 overall on the season. 

Entering the week, Brown's defense ranks third in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 6.83 goals per game. To open the season, the Bears posted a 19-0 shutout over Sacred Heart on Feb. 18. Junior goalie Mikaela Karlsson is second nationally in save percentage (.594) and tied for third in goals-against average (6.97).
