Women’s Lacrosse Hosts UMass Lowell on Wednesday Night

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team will close out non-conference play for the 2017 season on Wednesday, April 19, hosting UMass Lowell in a 7:00 p.m. contest at Stevenson-Pincince Field.

Brown was defeated by Harvard, 19-12, on Saturday in an Ivy League contest at Stevenson-Pincince Field. The Crimson went on two six-goal runs in the game, one in each half, to take the win. Sophomore Hafsa Moinuddin (Cheshire, Conn.) led the Bears in scoring on the day, with a career-high seven points on three goals and four assists.

The Bears fought off a second half comeback by the River Hawks to win the match-up, 5-4, on April 12 at Cushing Field. Brown scored all five of its goals in the first half while the UMass Lowell tallied three of its four scores in the second period.

UMass Lowell is entering its third season as a program and has posted a 6-7 overall record and a 0-4 mark in the America East. In their first eight games this season, the River Hawks compiled a 6-2 record but have lost five straight, including four conference games. UMass Lowell last played on Saturday, April 15 and was defeated by Binghamton, 12-6. Jane Dudley leads the team in points (28) with 12 goals and a squad-best 16 assists. Rebecca Idson holds the River Hawks' goal lead with 22 on the year and ranks third on the team in points (23). Courtney Barrett has appeared in goal all 13 games and has registered a 10.39 goals-against average and a .455 save percentage for a 6-7 record.

The Bears offense is powered by sophomore Hafsa Moinuddin, who has 35 points on 25 goals and 10 assists. Against Harvard on Saturday, the Cheshire, Conn. native recorded a career-high seven points with three goals and four assists. Sophomore Carolyn Paletta leads the team in goals with 26 and ranks second on the squad in scoring (29), adding three assists. Sophomore Zoe Verni (17G, 2A) is third on the Bears in scoring. Junior Marissa Hudgins is Brown's caused turnover leader with 25 and also paces the Bears in ground balls with 35 on the year. Junior Mikaela Karlsson has started nine games in net and has an 8.07 goals-against average and a .536 save percentage. Freshman Maggie Bigelow recorded her first-career win in goal against Cal on March 29 and then started her first game versus San Diego State (March 31). In six games played with three starts, the rookie has totaled a 12.78 GAA this season along with a .447 save percentage.

The Bears will play in their final home contest of 2017 and host Columbia on Saturday, April 22 for Senior Day. The game will begin at noon with a brief senior ceremony held prior to the start of the contest.
