Women’s Rugby Falls to Harvard

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's rugby team was defeated by Harvard, 84-8, at Marvel Field on Sunday to open Ivy League play.

The Crimson opened the match with a try to take a 5-0 lead. Following some big hits from freshman Olivia Duba (San Ramon, Calif.) and senior Bethany Dubois (Newtown, Conn.), Harvard was able to convert again to go up 10-0. The Crimson were able to keep up the pressure and jump out to a 39-0 lead at the break.

Harvard (3-0-1) increased its lead to 56-0 in the second. Brown (0-2) got on the board when Duba kicked for points, giving the Bears three points.

With the Crimson up 77-3, freshman Marion Sellier (Palo Alto, Calif.) sprinted for a try. Harvard would close out the game with a try and successful kick for a score of 84-8.

Seniors Hannah Yi (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Beth Clifton (Attleboro, Mass.), juniors Elise Hinkle (Sudbury, Mass.) and Courtney Hoggard (Phoenix, Ariz.) and freshman Karina Wang (Ottawa, Ontario) had strong games on both sides for the Bears.

Brown will next compete at Princeton on Saturday, Oct. 7 in a 1:00 p.m. match.
