Women’s Rugby Routs Princeton, 69-10

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Brown women's rugby team defeated Princeton, 69-10, on Saturday afternoon in an Ivy contest. The Bears were led by junior Louise Leitao (Porto Alegre, Brazil) and freshman Marion Sellier (Palo Alto, Calif.) who each had three tries.

Just two minutes into the match, senior Beth Clifton (Attleboro, Mass.) grabbed a turnover and Leitao scored for the Bears to take a 7-0 lead with a successful kick from freshman Olivia Duba (San Ramon, Calif.). Senior Hannah Yi (Los Angeles, Calif.) next sprinted 50m following the kick off for a try to increase Brown's advantage to 14-0 with another good kick from Duba.

Princeton later got on the board after a lineout to bring the contest to 14-5. The Bears countered the score with tries from junior Elise Hinkle (Sudbury, Mass.) and two from Sellier to run away with a 31-5 lead.

Sellier next scored her third try of the contest and Leitao added two while Hinkle capped off the scoring in the opening half for a 59-5 Brown lead.

The Tigers opened the second half scoring to bring the match to 59-10. Junior Dylan Jack (Pasadena, Calif.) helped lead Yi to her second try of the game to increase the Bears' advantage to 64-10. Clifton then added her first try to close out the scoring for the contest, 69-10.

Brown will next travel to Dartmouth on Saturday, Oct. 14 for a 12:00 p.m. Ivy match-up.
