PROVIDENCE, RI – Brown women's soccer head coach Phil Pincince has announced captains for the 2010 season in a vote by members of the team. Current seniors Charlotte Rizzi (Bethesda, MD) and Gina Walker (Canyon Country, CA) were selected by their peers to lead the Bears this season. Rizzi was an Honorable Mention All-Ivy honoree in 2008, while both are past recipients of the Dobson-Kay Coaches' Award with Rizzi earning the honor in 2008 and Walker earning the award in 2009.
Rizzi has been a valued member of the Bears' backfield for each of the last three seasons, and entered 2010 with 39 career games (28 starts). A steady player, Rizzi has been key in helping to spark the Bears' transition onto attack, registering three assists as a sophomore. So far this season, Rizzi has started all three games.
After missing all of the 2008 season due to injury, Walker came back and earned a starting position six games into the 2009 campaign. A determined player, she played in all 15 games, starting nine, while finishing the year as the Bears' second-leading scorer with seven points (1g, 5a), and leading the team with five assists. In all, Walker entered the 2010 season having played in 25 games (nine starts). This season, she has started all three games and has gotten off to a fast start, scoring two goals.
Having played three straight away games to open the season, the
Bears return to action this Saturday, September 11, when they host
Monmouth in their 2010 home opener. Game time is set for 2:00
