Brown Softball Sweeps Ivy League Weekly Awards
Providence, RI- After going 5-1 and winning the Lady Pirate
Classic Championship at Hampton University, Brown University senior
Katie Rothamel earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors while
freshman Liz DiMascio was named the Ivy League’s Pitcher and
Rookie of the Week.
Rothamel started and played in all six games for the Bears this
past weekend and batted .400 at the plate. She went 8-for-20 with
eight runs scored, four doubles, two walks, a homerun and 12 RBI.
The Bears lost their first game of the tournament to Central
Connecticut State University (L, 6-5), but won the next five
straight. Against CCSU, Rothamel was 1-for-3 with a run and two
RBI, and went on to go 2-for-4 with two hits (including a homerun)
and six RBI during Brown’s 12-2 victory against Coppin
State.
The Bears then defeated host Hampton 12-1, where Rothamel was
2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI as the Bears headed into
bracket play in the final day of the tournament. Bruno defeated
Arcadia 7-0 as Rothamel once again led the squad with a 3-of-4
performance at the plate with two runs and two RBI, and then
defeated Coppin State (1-0) to move into the championship game
against the Lady Pirates.
Freshman hurler DiMascio went 3-0 this weekend at the mound as she
played an integral role in Brown’s championship effort this
past weekend at the Lady Pirate Classic. She had a 0.74 ERA and
allowed just seven hits and three runs (two of which were earned)
in 19 total innings. She struck out 29 batters and had just six
walks. DiMascio received the championship game victory at the mound
pitching in the final two innings against Hampton. She struck out
two batters, and did not allow any hits, runs or walks.
DiMascio also earned a win during Brown’s 1-0 win against
Coppin State. She pitched all seven innings and allowed just one
hit and struck out eight batters in the 24 batters faced. DiMascio
also earned a win during Brown’s 12-1 victory against Coppin
State. She faced 20 batters in five innings and allowed just three
hits, one run and struck out 12 batters.
