Women’s Tennis Falls at Harvard, 5-2

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brown women's tennis team was defeated by Harvard, 5-2, on Friday at the Beren Tennis Center.

Brown opened the match by taking the doubles point with freshman Courtney Kowalsky (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and senior Maddie Stearns (Short Hills, N.J.) taking first doubles, 6-4, and sophomore Juliana Simon (Los Angeles, Calif.) and junior Katie Ta (Mission Viejo, Calif.) following with a 6-2 win in third doubles.

The Crimson were then able to take five of the six singles matches to claim the win. Sophomore Devon Jack (San Marino, Calif.) recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory in third singles for the Bears. Senior Alyza Benotto (Los Angeles, Calif.) battled No. 114 Erica Oosterhout in the first spot but was outlasted 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-4. Stearns (6-2, 1-6, 6-2, second) and Simon (6-4, 5-7, 6-3, sixth) joined Benotto with pushing their matches to three sets in defeats.

The Bears next return to College Hill and will host Dartmouth on Sunday, April 8 in a 12:00 p.m. match on the Ivy League Network.
