Smith & Kinsley Earn All-American Honors

Providence, RI- Brown University Track & Field throwers Brynn Smith '11 and Craig Kinsley '11 were named Second Team All-Americans by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2011 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field season. Second Team All-America honors are handed out to those whose final placing in the national meet range from ninth to 16th place.

Smith finished 10th in the preliminaries of the hammer throw at the NCAA Championship last week hosted at Drake University with a 202-8 toss (61.79m). A four-time NCAA qualifier, she was the Athletic Department's Marjorie Brown Smith award winner at the annual senior award banquet, which is presented to the outstanding female varsity athlete of the year. The Saco, Maine native, she was twice named the Outstanding Performer at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships, and was also a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team selection.

Kinsley earned 12th place at the NCAA Championships last week with a 229-9 distance in the javelin. Kinsley, a first team All-American last year, was a team captain this season and received the athletic department's Fritz Pollard Award, given to the outstanding male varsity athlete of the year, at the third annual senior awards banquet. A four-time Ivy League champion in the javelin (the only man in the Ivy League in history to accomplish this), Kinsley was a two-time IC4A champion, and was named the USTFCCCA Northeast Regional Field Event Athlete of the Year in 2010.
