Women’s Track & Field Opens Ivy Heptagonal Championship

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Brown University women's track & field team is currently in eighth place after the first day of competition at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships on Saturday at Yale's Cuyler Field & Dwyer Track.

Senior Shandell Scott (Norfolk, Va.) picked up a point in the long jump as she placed sixth overall with a leap of 18-9.25.

After four events in the heptathlon, Carly Paul (Fort Collins, Colo.) is in second place with 3,127 points, highlighted by a first-place performance in the high jump with a cleared height of 5-8.50.

Senior Taylor Worthy (Medfield, Mass.) and junior Clare Peabody (Aptos, Calif.) both qualified for the finals of the 1,500 meters, finishing fourth and ninth, respectively, in times of 4:26.62 and 4:36.64.

Rookie May Stern (Providence, R.I.) finished eighth in the 400-meter prelims at 56.47 to advance to Sunday's final, while Audrey Holt (Alpharetta, Ga.) also took eighth in the 100 meters at 11.94 to move on to the finals.

The Bears will wrap up the Ivy Heptagonal Championships on Sunday in New Haven.
