CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Brown University women's water polo defeated Siena College, 12-5, and the University of Toronto, 10-7, while falling to No 23 Marist College, 8-7, at the Harvard Invitational on Saturday at Blodgett Pool.
Playing their first games since Feb. 5, the Bears (5-1) opened the day with a narrow defeat to the nationally ranked Red Foxes (6-7) before topping the Varsity Blues in an exhibition and the Saints (0-12) in an NCAA contest.
Sophomore Carmen Rosas (Schaumburg, Ill.) scored seven goals on the day while junior Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.) and senior Marisa Kolokotronis (Sacramento, Calif.) each netted five goals over the three contests.
Next, Brown plays at the Hartwick Invitational from Mar. 11-12 with games against Siena (11:00 a.m.), La Salle (2:00 p.m.), and Hartwick (5:00 p.m.) on Saturday, Mar. 11 and a contest against St. Francis Brooklyn on Sunday, Mar. 12 at 10:00 a.m.
Game 1 – No. 23 Marist 8, Brown 7
Junior Jessica Heilman scored three goals, including back-to-back tallies in the fourth quarter, but Brown fell to No. 23 Marist, 8-7, in its first game of the day at the Harvard Invitational on Saturday morning.
Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.) netted consecutive goals to tie the game at 7-7 with 3:55 remaining, but the Red Foxes logged the contest's final tally with 3:10 to play.
Crowley opened the game with a goal from beyond the 5-meter mark just 35 seconds into the contest before Marist netted the first period's other two goals to take a 2-1 edge.
Kolokotronis netted the first goal of the second stanza to tie the score at 2-2 prior to a pair of tallies from the Red Foxes, which made it 4-2 with 6:09 to play until halftime. Heilman brought Brown within 4-3 prior to Marist taking a 5-3 edge into the break.
After 5:34 of scoreless play to open the second half, Marist scored the third quarter's first goal to pull ahead 6-3. The Bears responded with back-to-back goals from Woo and Miller less than a minute apart to cut the deficit to 6-5 heading to the fourth frame.
Marist went ahead 7-5 early in the fourth before Heilman's consecutive goals at the 5:17 and the 3:55 marks knotted the score at 7-7. Marist scored with 3:10 to go to pull out the win.

Game 2 – Brown 10, Toronto 7 (Exhibition)
Sophomore Carmen Rosas scored four goals to lead Brown to a 10-7 win over the University of Toronto in an exhibition on Saturday afternoon in the team's second game at the Harvard Invitational.
The Bears led 6-2 at halftime, and Rosas (Schaumburg, Ill.) scored three of Brown's four goals in the second half on the way to the win.
Kolokotronis, Flower, and McDougal each found the back of the net in the first quarter to give Brown a 3-1 edge after one. Rosas, Kolokotronis, and Heilman all converted in the second frame to push Brown ahead 6-2 at halftime.
Goals from McDougal and Rosas in the third quarter maintained Brown's lead at 8-4 before the Varsity Blues pulled within 8-5 heading to the fourth frame. Toronto came within 8-6 before back-to-back goals from Rosas extended the Bears' lead to 10-6.

Game 3 – Brown 12, Siena 5
Kolokotronis and Rosas each scored three goals as Brown defeated Siena, 12-5, in its third and final game at the Harvard Invitational on Saturday night.
The Bears took a 9-2 lead at halftime and gained a lead as large as 12-3 early in the fourth quarter.
McDougal netted two goals while freshman Hannah Eliot (Los Angeles, Calif.), Heilman, Miller, and Woo each chipped in one goal apiece.
Opening the contest, Rosas netted two goals while McDougal and Kolokotronis each scored once as Brown claimed a 4-1 lead after the first quarter.
Eliot, Heilman, Mller, Rosas, and Kolokotronis netted goals in the second quarter in order as the Bears pulled ahead 9-2. Woo and Kolokotronis added markers in the third quarter as Brown extended its lead to 11-3. McDougal made it 12-3 in the fourth quarter before the Saints scored the last two goals.
