Women’s Water Polo Beats Siena, 15-5, Ties No. 18 Hartwick, 16-16

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Brown University women's water polo defeated Siena College, 15-5, and tied No. 18 Hartwick College in an exhibition, 16-16, in a pair of contests at the Hartwick Invitational on Saturday at Moyer Pool.

The Bears (6-1) defeated the Saints (0-14) for the second time in as many games to open the day before playing the nationally ranked and host Hawks (10-5) to a draw.

Senior Marisa Kolokotronis (Sacramento, Calif.) scored eight goals on the day while sophomore Carmen Rosas (Schaumburg, Ill.) netted seven goals between the two contests.

Next, Brown concludes play at the Hartwick Invitational tomorrow, Sunday, Mar. 12, against St. Francis Brooklyn at 10:00 a.m.

Game 1 – Brown 15, Siena 5

Kolokotronis scored four goals to lead Brown women's water polo past Siena, 15-5, in its first game of the day at the Hartwick Invitational on Saturday morning.

The Bears took a 12-1 lead during the third quarter and grabbed 12-goal leads at 14-2 and 15-3 in the fourth quarter en route to their second win of the year over the Saints.

Rosas tallied three goals and three assists. Sophomores McKenna Miller (Danville, Calif.) and Allison Woo (Arcadia, Calif.) each netted two goals. Senior Shannon Crowley (Seal Beach, Calif.) dished out six assists with a goal.

Junior Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.), sophomore Maigrie McDougal (Sacramento, Calif.), and freshman Hannah Eliot (Los Angeles, Calif.) each netted a single goal while freshman Lexi Atwell (La Jolla, Calif.) passed out three assists.

Brown totaled 19 steals as a team with Kolokotronis (seven), Rosas (four), Heilman (three), Crowley (two), and Miller (two) leading the way.

In goal, junior goalkeeper Marisol Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) made eight saves.

Kolokotronis and Rosas each scored a pair of goals in the first quarter as Brown led 4-1 after one. Crowely and McDougal added second-quarter tallies to push the Bears ahead 6-1 at the intermission.

The Bears scored the first six goals of the third quarter to gain a 12-1 advantage. Kolokotronis and Miller each netted two goals during the run while Rosas and Woo each scored once. A goal from Eliot gave Brown a 13-2 lead heading to the fourth quarter. Heilman and Woo tacked on one goal each in the fourth quarter.

Game 2 – Brown 16, No. 18 Hartwick 16 (Exhibition)

Kolokotronis scored four goals for the second straight game, Rosas added four goals of her own, and Brown tied No. 18 Hartwick in an exhibition, 16-16, on Saturday night.

The Bears held a 10-9 lead on the Hawks at the half, and Kolokotronis scored with 44 seconds left to knot the score at the end of the contest.

Crowley and Heilman each netted three goals while Miller and Woo compiled identical stat lines of one goal and three assists apiece. Kolokotronis came up with a team-high four steals alongside two assists, and Rosas dished out two assists.

Freshman goalie Lauren Burns (Long Grove, Ill.) made 11 saves for the Bears in net.

Hartwick took an early 3-1 lead despite a goal from Heilman before a pair of goals from Kolokotronis and a tally from Rosas helped the Bears tie the score at 4-4 after one quarter.

Woo opened the second quarter's scoring before the Hawks knotted it again at 5-5. Brown responded with a 3-0 run behind two goals from Crowley and a marker from Kolokotronis to give the Bears an 8-5 edge. Hartwick tied it once more at 8-8 before goals from Rosas and Crowley helped the Bears gain a 10-9 lead at halftime.

Rosas scored in the third quarter, but three goals from the Hawks pushed the hosts ahead 12-11 through three.

Heilman scored Brown's first two goals of the fourth quarter to keep Brown within 14-13. Hartwick edged ahead at 15-13, but back-to-back goals from Rosas and Miller drew the visitors level at 15-15. Hartwick regained a 16-15 lead before Kolkotronis' final tally with under a minute to play.
