NEW LONDON, Conn. – Senior Marisa Kolokotronis scored three goals as Brown University women's water polo bested Connecticut College, 10-4, on Wednesday night at Lott Natatorium.
The Bears (16-3) opened the contest with a 4-0 lead less than three minutes into the game and closed the night on a 3-0 run to distance themselves from the host Camels (4-11).
Kolokotronis (Sacramento, Calif.) led all scorers while adding two steals. Junior Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.) tallied two goals and two ejections drawn while sophomore Allison Woo (Arcadia, Calif.) posted two goals and two assists.
Freshman Lexi Atwell (La Jolla, Calif.) totaled two assists and four steals, sophomore Carmen Rosas (Schaumburg, Ill.) added two assists and two steals, and sophomore Audrey Flower (Portola Valley, Calif.) dished out two assists.
In the cage, freshman goalkeeper Lauren Burns (Long Grove, Ill.) made eight saves and a steal.
Brown swept the season series with Conn. College after the Bears took a 15-5 decision on Mar. 21 in Providence.
Kolokotonis initiated the game's scoring with a goal 17 seconds after the opening whistle before Crowley converted a 5-meter penalty shot. Back-to-back goals from Woo gave Brown a 4-0 lead at the 5:23 mark of the first quarter before the Camels pulled within 4-1 heading to the second stanza.
In the second quarter, Kolokotronis and Heilman bookended a goal from Conn. College to provide the Bears with a 6-2 halftime lead.
Kolokotronis started the third quarter's scoring before the hosts charted back-to-back goals to cut their deficit to 7-4 through three frames.
Miller, Heilman, and Smith scored in order in the fourth quarter to keep the visitors in front.
Next, Brown opens CWPA competition, playing No. 7 Michigan (11:30 a.m.) and No. 10 Princeton (7:30 p.m.) on Saturday, Apr. 8 and Bucknell (10:30 a.m.) and George Washington (1:30 p.m.) on Sunday, Apr. 9 with Hartwick serving as the host for all four games.
